Workshop 1 GHG accounting methodologies

Emission transparency is essential in creating climate differentiated markets where actors can make informed decisions about their purchases and investments.  This workshop will provide an interactive overview of existing and developing GHG accounting and reporting methods at corporate and product level:

  • Aluminium products (primary and recycled aluminium)
  • Aluminium producers and users along the value chain
  • ASI Performance Standard-certifying Entities

RMI Horizon Zero’s “Aluminum Emissions Reporting GHG Reporting Guidance” and Can Manufacturers Institute-developed “Guidance for Calculating Recycled Content in Aluminium Beverage Containers” will be introduced

These provide needed transparency to incentivize low carbon production and enable low carbon purchasing decisions.  Collaboration among key stakeholders on the value chain is critical to drive the decarbonization of the aluminium industry.

Participants will also take away from the session a common understanding of IAI’s aluminium sector-wide emissions pathways, ASI’s target-setting expectations for conformance with its “Performance Standard” and an introduction to the range of methods currently under development to set and disclose such targets.
