International Fertilizer Association

The International Fertilizer Industry Association (IFA) is a non profit organization that represents the global fertilizer industry, on issues related to the promotion of plant nutrients, improvement of the operating environment of the member companies and the collection and compilation of industry information. IFA members serve farmers everywhere as they meet the world’s growing food, feed, fibre and bioenergy needs in a sustainable manner.

IFA is based in Paris, France, has 525 members in 85 countries. About half of the membership is based in developing countries. IFA member companies represent all activities related to the production, trade, transport and distribution of every type of fertilizer, their raw materials and intermediates. IFA’s membership also includes organizations involved in construction, engineering, consulting, agronomic research and training.

Regular assessments are made of the mining and beneficiation of phosphate rock, potash production technology and processes for the production of downstream phosphoric acid, phosphate and NPK fertilizers, with an emphasis on environmental stewardship, energy savings, the use, recycling or disposal of by-products, and the maximisation of production efficiencies.

The Fertilizer Society of South Africa was established in 1959. It was restructured in 2014, when it became known as the Fertilizer Association of Southern Africa (Fertasa). The Association represents the fertilizer industry in Southern Africa, with its members producing, trading, blending and distributing fertilizer products across this region. Fertasa’s purpose is to act as the recognised and preferred body that promotes the image of the fertilizer industry by:

  • Promoting the integrity of its members and building preferential trust for their products and services;
  • Enhancing and protecting the interests of its members through effective engagement with government and organised agriculture.

It was established in 2017 for the purpose of empowering the most disadvantaged Agro dealer SMMEs to render Agro dealer businesses next to the Agricultural SMMEs entrepreneurs farming locations in order to cut travelling costs and save time.

We the members of ADASA believe that the private sector input dealers are the engine of growth for the Southern Africa agricultural sector and are a prime force behind the modernization of South Africa Agriculture and the achievement of national food security resulting from improved yields. We also render Technical, Training and Mentoring farmers comprehensively in using agro-inputs.

It is our responsibility and privilege to foster the growth of an efficient and cost effective input distribution network that will reach all farmers in South Africa.
