He provides expert advice and consulting services for sulphur plants in the areas of design, capacity studies, startups and shutdowns, turnarounds and plant inspections, reliability studies, incident investigations, analytical and performance testing, and plant optimization. Gerald has worked for hundreds of clients in over 50 countries. Gerald is the primary speaker at Sulphur Experts’ world recognized Sulphur Recovery Technical Training Course.
Rene Dijkstra graduated from Twente University, The Netherlands, with a Masters degree in Chemical Engineering in 1995. He spent the next two years working for ICI Acrylics (now Lucite) in Billingham UK as a plant engineer for the sulphuric acid regeneration plant before joining Chemetics as a process engineer in 1997. Since his start in the spent acid recycling group he has continued to expand his technical role and was promoted to Chemetics Acid Technology Manager in 2007. His role now covers the entire range of sulfuric acid and sulfur technologies offered by Chemetics including responsibility for technology development.
Elmo Nasato is a senior process engineer specialising in sulphur recovery with over 25 years’ experience in the sulphur recovery industry. He graduated from the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada with a B.Sc. Chemical Engineering (1987). He currently serves on the Technical Advisory Committee for the Laurance Reid Gas Conditioning Conference, Brimstone Vail and Abu Dhabi Sulfur Recovery Symposium Advisory Committee and was a member of the Board of Directors for Alberta Sulphur Research. He has been awarded seven patents for SRU operation, oxygen enrichment and sulphur degassing technologies, has published 31 papers and has made over 50 presentations at conferences worldwide.
Nelson Clark is CEO of Clark Solutions and holds a degree in chemical engineering from the University of São Paulo. His main areas of expertise are gas treatment systems, mass transfer (absorption and distillation) and heat transfer, with focus in unit operations of both fertilizer and oil&gas markets. Casey Metheral has been involved in the sulphur industry since 2010. He is currently employed by IPCO as an engineering manager, and is located in Germany. He has lead the development of various processing equipment for the sulphur industry including drum granulation, degassing and melting technologies. Mr. Metheral graduated from the University of Calgary in 2006 with a bachelor’s of science degree, majoring in Mechanical Engineering and minoring in Petroleum Engineering. He graduated from the Haskayne School Business with an MBA in 2013.
Nicolas Lepeu is Business Development Manager at DuPont Clean Technologies, based in France. In his role, he plans and oversees new plant, revamp projects, plant optimizations and after market solutions for customers in the sulfuric acid industry. He began work at Elf Atochem as a process manager in 1998 and joined DuPont in 2002 where he held roles as technology and operations manager. With 23 years of experience in the chemical industry, he has developed extensive expertise in managing change and multi-cultural environments, as well as maintenance, process and SHE operations. Mr Lepeu holds a degree in Chemical Engineering from the Ecole National Supérieure des Industries Chimiques, France and a Masters in Finance from MIT, USA.
Rohen joined Alberta Sulphur Research Ltd. in 2015 as a researcher after achieving his M.Sc. at the University of Calgary where his work focussed on investigating alternative methodologies for olefin production using sulfur as an oxidizing agent. He has also performed research on ammonia destruction in the Claus furnace of Sulfur Recovery Units (SRU) and examined quench tower conditions to predict SO2 breakthrough and sulfur formation as it relates to reducing tail gas treating units (TGTU). Rohen is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Dr. Robert Marriott’s group, exploring Claus chemistry in a eutectic mixture of biphenyl and diphenyl ether for application as a novel tail gas clean-up process.
Peter, now enjoying retirement, spends his days chopping firewood and contemplating the impact of energy transitions on materials supply. He was educated (BSc, PhD) at the University of Hull, E. Yorkshire with postdoctoral fellowships at The University of Toronto and Manitoba. He served as Associate Director and Director of Research of Alberta Sulphur Research from 1986 - 2016 (when not teaching chemistry at The University of Calgary).

Michael Gaura is responsible for the spectroscopic products designed, sold, shipped and supported by AMETEK Process Instruments. This includes Ultraviolet (UV), Infrared (IR), Tunable Diode Laser (TDL) and X-ray Transmission (XRT) based analyzers. Joan Bova joined CG Thermal in 2014. She is responsible for driving our process technologies for the markets we serve, while also providing project management and technical support to our customers and sales team. She is involved in all products and applications, and is well versed in the AspenTech software and assists in evaluating thermal selections. She enjoys meeting customers and potential customers to more fully understand their processes and help evaluate options or upgrades. Joan works closely with both engineering and production to ensure the customer receives the best product to meet their requirements.
Joan began her career as an application engineer for cooling tower and closed circuit cooling products at Baltimore Aircoil Company. She expanded her involvement with heat transfer equipment while working with James R. McQuaide, Inc., a sales organization in the Philadelphia area representing equipment lines focused on commercial cooling.
Ellen Ticheler graduated as B. Sc. Chemical Technology Engineer, College of Technology, Amsterdam in 1996. She has worked for 4 years as Process Operator with ATO FINA, Rotterdam, The Netherlands. In 2001 Ellen joined Comprimo as a process engineer. Ellen is an experienced process engineer in the field of gas treating and sulphur technology. She is involved in the process design of gas treating and sulphur recovery units. Her experience involves providing operational support by means of start-up activities and troubleshooting and operator training. Ellen has been involved in various articles for Comprimo and participated in several sulphur technology seminars.
I am responsible for our Industrial Air and Fluid Solutions technical and sales department in the Netherlands. I have worked at CECO Environmental for almost 4 years and through this time, I have had the opportunity to work in multiple CECO offices and in particular our Dubai and the Netherlands’ office, and been fortunate to travel to various locations in the world to help out clients improve and meet tough environmental emission limits with smart solutions. I have held various positions at CECO Environmental from being Sales Manager to Sales Director, and the youngest employee to hold these management positions in the organization. I have gained extensive knowledge on international business and technical understanding of industrial manufacturing sectors and how to serve their needs with air pollution control, gas cleaning and separation technologies that are best available technologies. Loraine Huchler is president of MarTech Systems, Inc., a firm that assesses and manages risk in water-related utility systems. MarTech’s technical consulting services optimize the water and energy circuits in influent, steam, cooling and wastewater systems in industrial and manufacturing plants. Other services include technology feasibility studies, water conservation and water reuse studies, technical training and serving as an expert witness. Ms Huchler has a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Rochester, Rochester, New York and is licensed as a Professional Engineer in the state of New Jersey. Nuria Pascual is a Chemical engineer that graduated in October of 2020 from a Professional Doctorate in Process & Product design (PDEng). During her thesis, she developed an innovative technology and a mechanistic model to improve drug development processes. After finalizing the thesis, she started working as project engineer at Sulphurnet in April 2021. Since then, she has participated in various projects at different engineering phases related to the design and improvement of sulphur melting and purification plants.
Matt Coady has been with Delta Controls Corporation since 2013 after graduating from Louisiana State University located in his hometown of Baton Rouge. He has served in a variety of roles with Delta Controls including inside sales, field support, marketing, and now General Manager.
The anglophile Austrian Mechanical Engineer is busy in plant engineering nearly everywhere between Argentina and Japan since 1980. Originally working in the nonferrous metal industry as project manager, he quickly changed to the environmental business, where he fights for his merits in both waste gas and water treatment for more than 3 decades.

Breno de Almeida Avancini is a R&D engineer at Clark Solutions, holds a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of São Paulo and currently participates in the PPGEM (Graduate Program in Mechanical Engineering), also at the University of São Paulo in the modality of direct doctorate. Dr Harrisson has worked on CRU’s Sulphur and Sulphuric Acid analysis since joining the company in early 2011 and is Head of the Sulphur team. He also works across other nutrient areas, including both market and cost analysis. Prior to joining CRU, Dr Harrisson completed a PhD in Industrial Chemistry at Durham University.
Collin Bartlett graduated from the University of Manchester with an honours degree in Mechanical Engineering. He has held various technical and sales roles during his thirteen years at Davy McKee associated with their global activities in the Iron & Steel division. Mr Bartlett joined Lurgi Metallurgie (part of Outotec since 2001) and has been involved in many sales/business development roles for the company over the past 20 years.
Mathijs Sijpkes is a project engineer from the Netherlands. After finalizing his studies in Chemical Engineering in 2018 he started working for Sulphurnet in the field of sulphur melting and purification. Mathijs specializes in process design and has been working on numerous liquid sulphur melting and filtration projects with different capacity’s starting from 86 MTPD up to 1400 MTPD. During these projects the focus was to provide the clients with a process that is completely tailor made to help them achieve their goals.
Casper Frandsen has been employed with Haldor Topsoe since 1991. The first 14 years of employment were in Research & Development, working on improving Topsoe’s existing catalyst and developing new catalyst technologies within the field of sulfuric acid, DeNOx and oxidation processes.
The last 15 years he has been engaged with technical service and sales of catalyst for the sulfuric acid industry globally. He is today holding a position as Account Manager for Europe, Africa, South Korea and Japan, where his vast knowledge of catalysts and sulfuric acid plants is still been well received by his many good customers worldwide.
Jochen Geiger is in charge of Sales and Service support offices located in Germany, France, the Middle East and India.
