Before that, he was General Manager of BHP´s Spence mine in Chile. Patricio worked for BHP for 17 years, in a number of operational and commercial roles in Chile, Australia, and Singapore.Patricio has a degree in Mining Engineering from the Universidad de Santiago de Chile, an MBA from Curtin University in Australia and the Advanced Management Program from Harvard University in the US.

Máximo Pacheco Matte

Máximo Pacheco Matte is a Chilean economist and former Ministry of Energy of Chile. During his term (2014-2016) Pacheco led a renewables revolution in Chile passing seven laws in record time to modernize the legal framework, creating incentives for massive investment and boosting an unprecedented transformation of the sector.His green revolution has called the attention of Al Gore, as shown in his latest documentary.

Pacheco served for 16 years at state-owned mining company Codelco and 13 years in the pulp and paper industry. He has degrees from Universidad Catolica de Chile (UC) where he currently leads two programmes in the Engineering School and in the Government School.

Alejandro Tapia

Alejandro Tapia assumed the role of President of Escondida | BHP, the world's largest copper-producing mine, on July 1, 2023. Hailing from Antofagasta, Alejandro has an extensive career in the mining industry. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering and a Master of Science in Mineral Economics, both from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, as well as a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the London Business School. Alejandro joined BHP in 2004 and has since held various leadership roles, including Vice President of Projects at Pampa Norte, Head of Directional Studies, Director of Integrated Operations Projects, and General Manager of the Concentrator at Escondida. His most recent role was VP Planning and Technical Minerals Americas, where he led the growth strategy for copper and potash.

Cashel Meagher

Cashel Meagher became President & CEO and a Board member of Capstone Copper in May 2025, after serving as President & COO since 2022. Previously, he was SVP & COO at Hudbay Minerals, overseeing global operations, development, technical services, exploration, and CSR, and leading the construction and ramp-up of the Constancia mine. Jonathan Price was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Teck on November 1, 2023, and has been a member of Teck’s Board of Directors since July 26, 2022.

Previously, Mr. Price was Chief Executive Officer, having been appointed to that role in September 2022. He has also held the roles of Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Price joined Teck in October 2020 and brings extensive experience in the resources sector through a variety of finance, commercial and business development roles spanning Europe, Asia and Australia, with a focus on strategy, transformational change and business improvement.

Prior to joining Teck, Mr. Price was employed by BHP from 2006 to 2020 where he was Chief Transformation Officer, Vice President Finance and Vice President Investor Relations working in Asia, Australia and the UK. He has also worked in the Metals and Mining team at ABN AMRO Bank and held various production and technical roles with INCO.

Mr. Price holds a Master of Engineering (Honours) in Metallurgy and Materials Science from the University of Oxford and a Master of Business Administration from Cardiff University.

Shaun Usmar

Shaun Usmar is an international mining executive with 30 years of experience working around the globe in some of the world's largest and fastest growing mining companies. Currently, he serves as the CEO of Vale Base Metals. Formerly, Mr. Usmar founded Triple Flag Precious Metals Corp. and served as the CEO and a Director until September 2024 and prior roles included Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Barrick Gold Corporation, from 2014 to 2016. He joined Xstrata in 2002 as an early senior executive that helped grow the company into one of the world's largest diversified miners at the time of its acquisition by Glencore in 2013. His roles at Xstrata included General Manager of Business Development in London, Chief Financial Officer of Xstrata's global Ferro-Alloys business in South Africa, and Chief Financial Officer of Xstrata's global Nickel business in Canada. Prior to joining Xstrata, Mr. Usmar worked at BHP Billiton in Corporate Finance in London, and started his career in mining in operations in the steel and aluminum industries as a production engineer. Mr. Usmar serves as Chair of Make- A-Wish Canada and as an independent director of Alamos Gold and has served on several other boards in the past, including Peabody Energy and the World Gold Council, where he chaired the Audit Committee. He holds a Bachelor of Science Engineering in Metallurgy and Materials from the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa, and an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, both with distinction.

Before this, Katie was President of National Grid Ventures responsible for financing, developing and operating large-scale energy infrastructure assets including electricity interconnectors, LNG solutions, renewables, and competitive transmission.

With a career spanning three continents at Shell, UBS, Anadarko, Equinor and BG Group, Katie brings strong operational, commercial and strategy experience with a passion for solving technical, operational and financial challenges to make complex global projects work. Katie is a Non-Executive Director at specialist engineering group IMI since July 2018, and Chair of POWERful Women, the UK’s cross-industry initiative working for a gender-balanced, diverse and inclusive energy sector. 

Dr. Toralf Haag

Dr. Toralf Haag, born in 1966, has been the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Aurubis AG since September 1, 2024. He began his career in 1994 at Thyssen Handelsunion AG in Düsseldorf. From 1997 to 1999, he served as Director of Finance, M&A, and Corporate Development at The Budd Company in Detroit, USA, a subsidiary of ThyssenKrupp. In 2000, he was appointed CEO of the Stamping & Frame Division at The Budd Company. Between 2002 and 2005, Dr. Haag was the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Norddeutsche Affinerie AG, now known as Aurubis AG, in Hamburg. He then became CFO of the Swiss chemical and pharmaceutical company Lonza Group AG in 2005. In October 2016, he joined the Corporate Board of Management at Voith Group, initially as CFO, and was appointed Chairman in October 2018. Dr. Haag holds a degree in Business Administration from the University of Augsburg and a doctorate from the University of Kiel.

Juan Ignacio Díaz is the President and CEO of the International Copper Association, stepping into the role in 2024. With more than 18 years of experience leading complex businesses within major corporations, he has directed sustainable technology implementation across the energy, mining and transportation sectors. 

Juan Ignacio’s professional journey in the United States and Latin America shapes his global perspective. His leadership roles span from his most recent position as the Senior Vice President and Compliance Officer for Siemens USA and Latin America to serving as the CEO of Siemens in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean; CEO of Siemens Chile; and General Counsel for Siemens South America. In addition, he serves on the Board of Directors for Plasma Water Solutions, Inc. 

A multilingual executive fluent in Spanish and English, Juan Ignacio holds an MBA from Adolfo Ibanez University, an LL.M from Duke University School of Law and a LL.B/JD from Finis Terrae University School of Law. Juan Ignacio possesses a passion for life-long learning, completing executive education programs at INSEAD and Harvard University.

Lucy Martin is a Principal Vice President and General Manager for the South America region of Bechtel’s Mining & Metals Global Business Unit (M&M GBU). She assumed this role in September 2023.Previously, she served as Chief Financial Officer and Operations Manager for the business unit.Lucy has nearly 25 years of experience with Bechtel, serving in management positions of increasing responsibility.

Professor Rick Valenta leads research aimed at improving the discovery,  mining and processing of hydrothermal ore deposits.  His areas of focus include structural geology, geophysics and ore deposit geology, with an overall theme of better understanding the underlying processes which lead to the localisation and characteristics of these deposits.  Rick also has a strong focus on development of 4D mineral systems models from deposit to region scales, using these models to improve targeting techniques, better formulate geological and resource models, and inform prediction of mineral processing performance.

Nicolás Rojas joined CRU in January 2025 as an Analyst within the Base Metals Assets team, based in the Santiago office.

He is a mining engineer with a master’s degree in Mining from Universidad de Chile, where he was awarded the ANID National Master’s Scholarship in 2023. His research focused on the correlation between geometallurgical properties and mechanical behaviour, bridging the fields of Mining and Materials Science.

Before joining CRU, Nicolás gained experience in management consulting at Bain & Company, where he worked as an Associate Consultant. He contributed to Full Potential and Cost Optimization projects for various Chilean mining operations, with a specialization in plant optimization.  

At CRU, Nicolás focuses on copper mining assets across the Americas, providing insights and analytical support to the LATAM team.
