EV Motors - Propelling Copper into the Future
Luke Gear, Senior Technology Analyst, IDTechEx
Luke leads the research on Electric Vehicles. He has a specialist knowledge of the markets and technologies underlying electric vehicles, energy storage for electric vehicles, and stationary energy storage, as well as an expertise in forecasting, technology benchmarking and competitive landscape analysis. Luke's background is a Master of Physics from the University of Bath, where he studied a variety of topics including photonics, nanoscience and condensed matter. His interest for sustainable energy began with his Master's placement at Culham Centre for Fusion Energy, where he helped improve the efficiency of a piece of specialist scientific software. His work contributed to the ITER project, a fusion experiment in Southern France that hopes to be the first to generate a surplus of energy. Today, Luke speaks regularly both at IDTechEx events and external events, sharing the latest insights on electric vehicle and battery trends. He has provided keynote presentations and technical masterclasses across three continents.
Marcin Seredynski, E-Bus Competence Center, Volvo Buses
Head of Innovation and Research at the E-Bus Competence Center in Luxembourg, Marcin Seredynski is involved in R&D projects combining electromobility with cooperative intelligent transportation systems. Mr. Seredynski received his M.Sc. (2004) from the Warsaw University of Technology and in 2009 he defended his PhD thesis with the University of Luxembourg and Polish Academy of Sciences. He has published over 60 peer-reviewed scientific and technical articles.
Simon Brockway, Advanced Motor Research Manager, Protean Electric Ltd.
Simon has more than 30 years’ experience in permanent magnet electrical machine design and managing multi-disciplined engineering and product development teams. Having graduated in 1985 with a BSc (Hons) in Electrical & Electronic Engineering at Portsmouth Polytechnic he has been a developer of in-wheel motor technology since the mid-1990s. Apprentice trained he has experience in the servo, domestic appliance and automotive sectors having worked in low and high volume manufacturing, contractual research and start-up organisations.
Cleef C. Thackwell, Lead Motor Designer, Jaguar Land Rover
Lead Motor Designer at Jaguar Land Rover in Coventry, United Kingdom, Mr. Thackwell leads the Advanced Development activities of electric drive units for vehicles across both brands. After graduating with a double-degree M. Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Technische Universität Darmstadt, Germany, and Ecole Nationale Superieure de l’Electronique et de ses Applications, France (2012), Mr. Thackwell spent 4 years working at Volkswagen AG in Germany, participating in the design of electric drive units which are today part of the Volkswagen Group MEB platform. Mr. Thackwell joined Jaguar Land Rover in 2016 to develop the electric motors for the all-electric Jaguar I-Pace and currently works on the brand's future electric models.
