We are excited to be able to
offer conference participants the chance to see Kropz’s flagship operation; the
Elandsfontein phosphate project.
Kropz is an emerging plant
nutrient producer with an advanced stage phosphate mining project in South
Africa and exploration assets in West Africa. The vision of the Group is to
become a leading independent phosphate rock producer and to develop into an
integrated, mine-to-market plant nutrient company focusing on sub-Saharan
Africa. The Elandsfontein project is a near-term producing asset in South
Africa’s Western Cape Province, located approximately 100km NNW of Cape Town,
and 18km east of the Atlantic Coast.
The Elandsfontein project is
recognised as containing the second largest phosphate deposit in South Africa,
behind Foskor’s operation in Phalaborwa. The Elandsfontein phosphate rock is of
consistent quality and is low in cadmium and other heavy metals. The
sedimentary deposit is a free-digging operation and does not involve drilling
and blasting activities. Elandsfontein has been developed with the capacity to
produce up to 1.2 Mtpa of rock concentrate from a shallow Mineral Resource
which will be sold on both local and international markets.
To date, Kropz has spent
approximately USD 120 million on project Capital Expenditure (Capex) to
construct the processing plant and infrastructure, initial mining and
capitalised working costs. In July 2017,
on a the back of a number or technical, permitting and economic challenges, the
decision was made to delay the commissioning of the mine. The mine is currently
on care and maintenance, looking to restart in H2 2019.
The mine visit would include:
from Century City Hotel
at the Elandsfontein project
09:00 A presentation on the
Elandsfontein project, highlighting the commitment to sustainability that was
adopted from the conceptual design phase to allow the mining of the deposit in
an environmentally responsible manner.

numbers/logistics allow, a drive into the mining pit (not operational)
Depart Elandsfontein project
