Varun Mathur is the Market Manager for subsidiary of IPCO International AB in Middle East Market covering GCC and Iraq. Varun looks after IPCO business in the region and manages sales & after sales services from Abu Dhabi, UAE. Varun has been employed with IPCO & its predecessor for 12 years and has been involved in several projects in the Sulphur, Petrochemical & Fertilizer industries. Varun is a B. Tech Mechanical Engineer from UPTECH University in India. Prior to joining IPCO he worked as site engineer and sales engineer in Bahrain and will complete 20 years of working in Middle East this year.

Jan Willem Hennipman

Jan-Willem Hennipman, PDEng, is one of the technology specialists of Worley Comprimo, with a broad knowledge in all aspects of sulphur recovery, sour water stripping and amine treating. Jan-Willem has more than 20 years of engineering experience in the oil and gas industries. Before that he worked 10 years as a process engineer for a pharmaceutical company. He holds a MS degree in Chemical Engineering and a Professional Doctorate in Engineering from the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands.

Stefaan Gouhie

Stefaan Gouhie is a mechanical engineer who currently serves as the Regional Sales Manager for CSI Ametek, where he focuses on solving heat-related plugging and corrosion issues in the European refining and petrochemical industry.

He has developed expertise in good heating practices through numerous site visits and hands-on installations over more than a decade in the sulphur industry.

Ayan Dasgupta is a highly experienced Process Engineer with over 22 years of expertise in conceptual design, detailed engineering, and lump sum contracts. He has a proven track record of successfully executing process studies, front-end design, and detailed design for various industries, including refineries, petrochemical complexes, chemical plants, onshore gas terminals, and power plants. Ayan's extensive knowledge and skills have earned him global recognition as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Acid Gas Treatment at Fluor. His current areas of work include Acid Gas Removal Units, Acid Gas Enrichment Units, and Sulphur Recovery Units.

Edward Vera Douglas

Edward Vera Douglas is a seasoned Senior Process Engineer with over 23 years of experience in Upstream and Downstream facilities. His expertise lies in Amine Treating and Sulphur Recovery Units, with a proven track record of delivering technical excellence in mega-scale projects, including the Ultra Sour Gas Shah project in Abu Dhabi. Currently, Edward provides critical technical support as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Gas Treating and Sulphur Recovery to ARAMCO's Global Manufacturing downstream facilities, leveraging his hands-on experience spanning the entire project lifecycle, from Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) to Operations phase. His extensive expertise and collaborative approach make him a trusted advisor in the industry.

Pilip Cejka is a Consulting Engineer at Bryan Research & Engineering, where he bridges the gap between complex process simulation and real-world optimization. He specialises in solving intricate process challenges, including diagnosing salt accumulation in Merox units, resolving tail gas treating emission issues, and reducing steam consumption in sour water strippers.His expertise spans traditional upstream, midstream, and refining sectors, as well as the energy transition, including modelling sustainable aviation fuels and pioneering green ammonia and methanol. Francis Bernard

Francis Bernard is the Director of Operations at Alberta Sulphur Research Ltd. (ASRL). A chemist by training with a degree from Université de Sherbrooke, Francis oversees the company’s business and operational strategy. Since joining ASRL in 1999, he has developed expertise in the safe handling of high-pressure sour fluids and specialized measurements, such as water content in sour systems. His project history spans from corrosion and storage to transportation and emissions. While he specializes in elemental sulfur deposition and solvents, his recent work includes H2S scavengers and complex deposit analysis. Before ASRL, Francis developed acidizing and fracturing formulations for the oil and gas service industry.

Angie Slavens

Angie has 28 years of experience working in the oil and gas business, primarily focused on sulphur recovery and sour gas treating. She has served as sulphur technology manager for two of the world’s leading sulphur technology licensing firms and has been involved in the delivery of several world-class projects. In 2014, Angie initiated an owner’s engineering focused consulting business, UniverSUL Consulting, based in Abu Dhabi, which has since been relocated to the USA. Angie has published numerous papers, is a member of several international conference committees, and previously served on the Board of Directors for ASRL (2013-2023).  

Angie received her BSc in Chemical Engineering from the University of Kansas in 1996 and MBA from Hult International Business School (Dubai, UAE) in 2018.  

In her free time, Angie enjoys distance running; she completed the Abbot Marathon World Majors (Berlin, Boston, Chicago London, New York, Tokyo) in 2021.   

Peter Harrisson

Dr Harrisson has worked on CRU’s Sulphur and Sulphuric Acid analysis since joining the company in early 2011 and is Head of the Sulphur team. He also works across other nutrient areas, including both market and cost analysis. Prior to joining CRU, Dr Harrisson completed a PhD in Industrial Chemistry at Durham University.

Feras Kordi

Feras Kordi is a Process Engineer at BASF’s OASE® Gas Treatment Team. In his role, he provides technical support to gas treatment plants in various segments in natural gas and refinery industries, ranging from LNG treatment to Sulfur Selective and CO2 capture applications. He specializes on Technology selection, design and modeling, commissioning, and operation troubleshooting. Feras has worked previously in a major oil and gas EPC company, primarily in natural gas processing, refineries, and petrochemical complexes. He holds a Bachelors and Masters of Science degrees in Chemical Engineering from the American University of Sharjah, and has been part of multiple scientific conferences regarding his research in bioenergy and reactor modelling.
