Mostafa Shehata works as an Engineering Consultant with Bryan Research and
Engineering and supports ProMax process simulation software users across Africa
and the Middle East. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Suez University in
refining, petrochemicals, and natural gas processing. After graduation, he
enriched his theoretical study with industrial experience through participating
in commissioning and initial start-up of two major petrochemical plants in
Egypt. Mostafa is experienced in initial plant design and operating plant
troubleshooting along with seeking various ways of optimization and cost
reduction. He also holds an MBA degree from Arab Academy for Science,
Technology and Maritime Transport.
Carbon Capture in the Sulfur Value Chain Workshop
05/20/2024
11:30 - 13:30
In this workshop, Bryan Research & Engineering will:
Review the complete process flow of a sour gas plant, representative of the Middle East landscape.
- As we move through the value chain, industrially relevant rule-of-thumbs, operating principles, and key performance indicators will be presented for acid gas removal, sulfur recovery and tail gas cleanup units.
- Using a simulation model, attendees will also understand how acid gas components (H2S and CO2) move through such a gas plant and what are their conditions at each section of the facility – especially entry and exit points. The model will also help attendees visualize how upstream process conditions can potentially affect the overall sour gas plant configuration and process conditions. The rationale for common variations seen in these process units will be studied using a robust electrolytic simulation model.
Opportunities for setting up CO2 capture / removal plants along this value chain will be explored.
- A thorough technical evaluation of various process technologies for CCUS will be presented at each node.
- Opportunities to optimize processes in the value chain to enhance CCUS cost benefits will also be demonstrated via plant modelling techniques.
- Process improvements like - enhanced oxygen SRUs, SOx pretreatment, use of sterically hindered amines and/or piperazine and its derivatives, enhanced CO2-slip ideas, solvent regeneration optimization - and how they minimize energy consumption will be discussed.
